Thanks again for producing these training DVDs. I have learned more watching the DVDs than going to 10 private lessons! I was watching “Max the Gripper” with my friend. She had a dog like Max, but seems to have her working better now. She’s very new to both working with stock and sheepdog handling. Being able to see the train-wrecks that happen eventually to everyone is reassuring. I love the lead-chain solution.

I love your videos I’ve watched them multiple times.

Thanks Andy for all your advice. I will get straight on to watching the suggested tutorials and get back out in the ring with some new ideas in my belt. And a big thank you for your website, it really is making training my first working dog an enjoyable and fascinating process.

Thank you so much for your amazing tutorials, I paid for the membership at the start of the year and they have been so helpful. I so appreciate the upgrades you made to help the videos play more easily on slower connections. I live in a rural part of Canada and the videos play way more smoothly now. I will be going back and watching the tutorials again now that they play more quickly. I so appreciate your help and guidance.

Firstly, may I say as a newcomer to sheepdog training I have found your videos great. I am training Meg, a smooth coated B/W border collie, now 18 months old. I started when she was just over one year old, although she did show an interest in sheep as a pup. Training has progressed well – I started with a pen as you suggest and soon progressed to the open field.
  4. John on email15th March 2022
Just a quick note about the dog I have that couldn’t keep his sheep moving on the fetch. I studied the videos you recommended and took the old dog,and when he couldn’t move the sheep and sent her and let her nip them and it helped. Still have aways to go, be he is getting better. Outrun have speeded up and is getting a little more aggressive. Thank you for your help.

  6. Henry on email9th February 2022
Andy, thanks for all of the helpful instruction. I am working our border collie Sage with our 17 katahdin ewes, which constitute all of the sheep we have….(Training question)….Thanks very much. We love your videos.

Your tutorials were really helpful and i enjoyed them a lot! They helped me to train and understand my dog better. For a while I did not watch them regularly enough, so I will pause the subscription for a while. I’ll be back for sure.

Hello Andy, thank you so much for your videos! I am really enjoying them. I found this video really helpful and my pup is starting to keep her distance well with her flanks and in doing so, has been gripping a LOT less. We still have work to do but it’s getting better.

Excellent videos I’ve trained two dogs to a fairly high stardard for my own farm using your tutorials.
  2. Nancy on Back to forwards12th October 2021
This has been a complete game changer for us. I was really struggling with how to slow my dog down and get her to give the sheep more space and was getting really frustrated. It’s done wonders for our working relationship. We’re beginning to trust each other. Thank you.

  4. Robann on How can I slow the dog down?4th August 2021
Just a general comment… these tutorials are great! I train my own dogs and take advantage of many on line resources, and I have to say… your tutorials have helped more than any other resource. The reason, I believe… is because you talk about the problems and you illustrate with real life situations, not dogs that are already “perfect”. Not only does this help me learn how to deal with real problems, but also gives me confidence that I’m not alone because my dogs aren’t perfect out of the gate. But… they have improved tremendously. Thanks again.

  7. Lauren on Training Max – the GRIPPER!25th July 2021
cI have found all of your tutorials incredibly valuable and I have taken something from each, even the ones that I wouldn’t have thought applied to my dog, these with Max are wonderful and have given me hope when I am worried about her gripping……. Prior to watching your tutorials I would have panicked and screamed at her, so I feel we are both making progress, thank you, I am genuinely enjoying learning with her.
  8. Regula on email17th March 2021
Thank you for all your effort that you put in your project “working sheepdog”. We already own several of your videos. My son used many of your training tips for training his first pure bred Border Collie. I’m sure the two will even get better with using your online tutorial :)
  9. Nigel on Stopping the dog (Parts 1-3)12th March 2021
Great video’s by the way, it’s nice to know that I’m not the only person who gets tripped up by sheep during training.

Wow, thanks for the thoughtful response! shocked that it was this quick. First, I want to say I love your tutorials and the way you teach. I should have given you more details, but candidly didn’t think I would get a response.
  12. Leighton on email29th January 2021
Sorry I have cancelled my subscription but I wanted to say thank you for putting them all together. I have loved the videos. Really great explanations. I really enjoyed watching them, especially as they are so informative. I would highly recommend them to anyone starting out training their dog in the delights of sheep herding.
Our own store lambs have been long in the freezer, and we are under a metre of snow (I live in the French Alps), so my dog, Powell, and I wont be doing any herding until Spring arrives now..

  6. Robann on “Training Max – the Gripper” – 18th October 2020
This is a very interesting video series because it is something you almost never see in other on line training venues; that is, training a strong, difficult, and grippy dog. Not many trainers illustrate that type of situation, so I greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
  7. Louise on email 10th October 2020
Although I have just cancelled my membership (had it for a month) I just wanted to thank you for making these tutorials available. I have a 10 month old pup that has been a challenge and more than a handful to start. Over the top keen, excitable and a nasty hard gripper. I was beginning to wonder if he was a hopeless case on sheep and might be better suited for cattle. After watching your tutorials (esp. on difficult dogs) I realized I had just been lucky with the training on my 4 other dogs . I never had to worry about diving in and gripping. We are now making progress each session and the gripping seems to be a thing of the past.
I must say I appreciated your unedited portions in the tutorials where things didn’t go as planned and how you carried on. That gave me the incentive to continue with him.
  8. Saira on “What shall I do next” – 8th October 2020
Ive just joined membership, and the tutorials have been such a fantastic help. 3 weeks ago i bought a 5 year old untrained bitch. I have been watching your tutorials every day and teaching cuilean she is very keen ,now competent on her sides , and stops well. I ve been practising walking backwards with her bringing the sheep to me, which she is also mastered, and walks very well on the lead.

  2. Ken on “Educating Gloria” – 18th November 2017
I am a retired sheep station manager, sheepdog trainer and sheepdog trialer in Australia. I have a considerable library of dog training books and DVDs. I find your method really fits well with mine and has helped me to refine my technique. I appreciate how you are prepared to show how things can go wrong and then how you work to correct them. I strongly recommend your website in my dog training book and also when giving working dog demonstrations.

This tutorial is immensly helpful along with Max the Gripper.
  10. Natalie on “Backwards is the way forward” – 15th May 2017
I wanted to commend you on the quality of your videos. I usually can’t get through 2 minutes of online tutorials of any kind because they are poorly communicated and poorly filmed. You’ve done a superb job of giving concise instructions, fantastic camera work triangulated with honesty in filming (i.e. you’ll leave your own training mistakes in). I appreciate the work you and your partner do and it’s helped me tremendously with shepherding my own flock and helped me understand my working dogs minds and motivation.
  11. Britta on “Backwards is the way forward” – 28th April 2017
Thank you so much, now I understand why I have to do this exercise!!! So far, everybody told me that I have to do it, but nobody has bothered to tell why I am doing it. So I never really bothered. Plus I could never do it, simply because my dog rushes the sheep too much and they run away; even more reason to do it, I now understand. Andy, you are a star :-).
  12. Anna on “Sometimes nice is not enough” – 20th April 2017
Awesome tutorial! It’s interesting seeing the comparison between the two dogs.
  13. Michaela on “Top tips for easier training” – 24th March 2017
